Two fatalities on Irish roads in two days as motorcyclist killed in Cavan collision

A motorcyclist has been killed following a serious collision in Co Cavan this afternoon.

Gardaí are currently at the scene of the collision involving a car and a motorcycle on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road, the N55, at Corlurgan.

The incident occurred at 3.10pm and the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries arising from the collision have been reported.

The N55 at Corlurgan is currently closed and expected to remain closed overnight and into tomorrow morning. Local diversions are in place.

Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to attend and conduct a technical examination of the scene.

Gardaí are appealing for any persons who were travelling on the N55 in the Corlurgan area to come forward.

Witnesses and those who may have camera footage, including dash cam, are asked to contact investigating gardaí.

On New Year's Day, a passenger, a man aged in his 20s, was killed after the car he was travelling in left the motorway and struck a raised grass bank.

The driver, a man also aged in his 20s, was taken to Tallaght University Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Two more passengers, both men in their 20s, did not require immediate hospital treatment.
