Eamon Ryan criticises Saudis for spending more on football and golf than climate change

Eamon Ryan said that while other countries, including Britain, spend significant sums of money on players, these funds are generally not raised through fossil fuel profits.

Environment Minister Eamon Ryan has criticised the Saudi Arabian government for spending more money on ā€œfootball and golfā€ than on climate change measures.

ā€œIn my mind, the polluter has to pay. If Saudi Arabia can afford €875m spent in soccer players in the last three months, it can afford to contribute towards the climate crisis we have,ā€ Mr Ryan said.
