The M7 westbound remains closed this morning following a fatal road traffic collision which took the life of an eldery man yesterday.
A man in his 80s died at the University Hospital Limerick (UHL) after the three-car crash which happened close to the intersection of the M7 and M8 motorways shortly at approximately 7:15pm yesterday.
The driver of the second vehicle, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured and taken to UHL along with a female passenger, also in her 40s.
The woman's injuries are described as non-life-threatening.
The male driver and a female passenger from the third vehicle were taken to Cork University Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
A child, who was also in the third car, was taken to hospital for treatment.
The M7 westbound is still closed between Junction 18 Portlaoise West and Junction 19 at the M8 merge and diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to come forward.
Any road users who were travelling on the M7 this evening between 7pm and 7.30pm and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
