Craft and construction union the TEEU says Lansdowne is dead, as Siptu issues ballot warning

One of the country's largest unions has said the Lansdowne Road Agreement has run its course.

The TEEU, which represents craft and construction workers, will debate the pay deal and discuss wages and precarious employment in a conference over the next two days.

TEEU General Secretary Paddy Kavanagh said emergency legislation to reduce workers' pay during the recession needed to be wound down and pay restored.

He said: "The circumstances that required those agreements are gone. Even in light of Brexit, the predictions are for continued growth.

"Circumstances have radically changed and it's in those agreements that should they radically change, either party could revisit (them)."

His comments come as Siptu said it would ballot its members if the Government does not agree to a new round of pay talks.
