Gardaí: Weapons seizure has 'saved somebody's life'

Investigations are ongoing after a major firearm seizure in Dublin over the weekend.

Gardaí say weapons including hand guns, silencers, sub machine guns and ammunition were discovered following the search of a car in the Cabra area on Saturday.

No arrests have yet been made.

Detective Superintendent Tony Howard, who is leading the investigation, said: "It's important to stress that we have saved somebody's life by seizing those weapons.

"But I am also conscious that we have Gardaí who are out on a daily basis on various operations and I am glad that we seized these and nobody was hurt in the operation."
