Gardaí investigate after elderly man dies in house fire

Gardaí are investigating a fatal fire in Longford.

Emergency services were called to a house at Ballinalee at around 8pm last night.

A man in his eighties was found dead at the scene.

His remains have been removed to Mullingar mortuary, where a post mortem is expected to be carried out.

At this stage there is nothing to suggest the fire started suspiciously.
