A male cyclist has been killed in a crash in Co Louth.

A male cyclist has been killed in a crash in Co Louth.

The accident happened shortly before 7am at Birch’s Lane, Blackrock.

The man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to attend and examine the scene. The road is now closed and traffic diversions are in place.

His body was removed to Louth County Hospital for a post-mortem examination and the local coroner has been notified.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have travelled on Birch’s Lane between 4am and 7am to contact them at Dundalk Garda Station.
