Irish Pharmacy Union issue warning not to mix alcohol and prescription medicines
People are being reminded not to mix alcohol and prescription medicines this Christmas.
Pharmacists have said drinking while taking prescription drugs increases your chances of suffering from unwanted side effects.
The Irish Pharmacy Union believes alcohol can also negatively interact with over the counter and herbal remedies.
Spokesperson for the IPU Bernard Duggan has said people should be vigilant when mixing medicines and drink.
“It’s important if you are taking your regular mediation or any medication at all and you are having a drink of alcohol over the festive period - check with your local community pharmacist who will be able to advise you if the alcohol may mix with their medication and possibly lead to any side effects. ”
