New legislation means drones will now have to be registered

Those planning to give a drone as a Christmas present should make sure that they are registered.

The Irish Aviation Authority will announce new legislation later, meaning that all drones weighing over one kilo will have to be registered with them.

The new law will come into place for the 4,000 drone owners in Ireland from December 21.

It will be possible to register the drones online.

The register is the first of its kind in Europe.
