Andrews calls on Government to act on Longboat Quay

Dublin City Councillor Chris Andrews is calling on the Government to act on Longboat Quay as a matter of urgency and end the uncertainty for almost 300 families.

In a statement this morning Cllr Andrews has said "residents are no clearer now than they were a number of weeks ago if they will have to be evacuated from their homes."

€4m is required for essential fire safety works at the Docklands complex and Cllr Andrews is calling on Minister Alan Kelly to put residents first to ensure that they do not have to pay.

On Friday, legal proceedings between the management company of the Longboat Quay apartments and the Dublin Docklands Development Authority over liability for funding the works were adjourned to facilitate efforts to resolve matters.

“The clock is ticking and with time running out before the fire notice kicks in the Minister with responsibility needs to step up to the plate,” said Andrews in his statement.

“Residents are no clearer now than they were a number of weeks ago if they will have to be evacuated from their homes.

“The Minister also needs to make sure that a full audit of all Docklands building is carried out in order to determine the extent of the problem.”
