Gardaí have released a 34-year-old man without charge in connection with a major livestock theft in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath.

Gardaí have released a 34-year-old man without charge in connection with a major livestock theft in Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath.

The man, who is from the Donegal area, was detained yesterday for questioning at Athlone Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

75 cattle and 25 sheep, worth over €100,000 were taken from lands at Cornaher in June of this year.

It is the second arrest that Gardaí have made in connection with the theft.

Gardaí have confirmed that a file is being prepared for the DPP and investigations are ongoing.
