Two aggravated burglaries at pensioners homes being investigated

Police in the North are investigating two aggravated burglaries at pensioners homes in Newtownabbey and Ballyclare last night.

The first burglary occured at around 8.30pm when three men entered the home of a couple in their 70s in Bracken Drive Newtownabbey.

The couple were made to stay in their living room with one of the intruders while the other two rummaged through upstairs rooms.

In Ballyclare an aggravated burglary was reported at the home of a man in his 60s at around 10.25pm.

Police believe thieves may have used a vehicle to force electric gates at the Ballysavage Road property.

The occupant was held down in bed by one of the intruders while a second searched the bedroom. The pair made off with a safe and the keys to the victim's car.

Police don't believe the incidents are linked.
