Council meeting with Carrickmines residents described as 'constructive'

Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council has said they have had a constructive meeting with residents at Rockville Drive.

The council said they are using every resource to address the concerns of residents and to re-home the survivors of the Carrickmines Fire.

Residents met with senior council members this morning, the third meeting in the last two days.

A small number of protestors are still on the road and have said the residents should have more compassion for the traveller families.

“We have family that lives within two minutes of this estate," one protestor said, "I believe everyone has a right to live somewhere, what happened to the families up the road there, it’s tragic.

“You can’t have anything worse happening to you, this is a temporary site, they need to come here”.

Another woman said the victims of last Saturday's tragedy have enough to deal with.

“The travelling community are humans too,” one woman said, “and they deserve to live somewhere and they are grieving enough as it is without having to do all this. I am sure that they want that they want to lay their family down to rest now and grief but no they have to go through all this and fight for a place to live.”
