Residents blocking Carrickmines survivors to meet Council officials

Residents blocking survivors of the Carrickmines fire from temporary accommodation are due to meet County Council officials again this morning.

Five adults and five children were killed in Saturday's fire at a halting site on Glenamuck Road.

The locals on Rockville Drive claim that the temporary site put forward is unsuitable - despite a Council commitment that it will be cleared within six months.

Fifteen survivors of the blaze on the Glenamuck Road are now being prevented from accessing a temporary accommodation site close to the scene by the residents, who are mounting a blockade.

They due to meet Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council for the second time tomorrow morning to discuss the situation.

Southside Traveller Action Group spokesperson Geraldine Dunne says those left homeless by the blaze are struggling.

"They've been going from hotels, to B&Bs, to recreational centres, and it's an ongoing situation for them where they have to go , get up, go on, move on, so they really need somewhere to stay," she said.

A candlelit vigil was held at the site of the blaze yesterday evening.
