Live broadcast: Thomas Kent State Funeral

Crowds have begun to gather in Cork today for the State Funeral of executed rebel Thomas Kent.

Kent was executed in May of 1916. His remains were removed from Cork Prison in June and formally identified after DNA testing.

RTÉ are providing a live broadcast of the funeral Mass (see below).

The Requiem Mass is being held at St Nicholas's Church in Castlelyons, Co Cork, after which Kent's remains will be reinterred in the Kent family vault.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny will deliver a graveside oration at the burial.

Sean Sherwin, who acts as a liaison for the Kent family, said they were “very grateful to all those who had turned up to pay their respects” and are looking forward to seeing even more people honour him when he is buried today.
