The LE Niamh has rescued 468 migrants from the Mediterranean in the last two days.

The first operation was carried out 110 kilometres north-west of Tripoli in Libya yesterday.

358 migrants were saved from a wooden barge.

The Irish naval vessel then travelled with two Italian Coast Guard vessels to south of Lampedusa, taking a further 110 people on board.

The migrants were all disembarked at Pozzallo in Sicily this morning.
