A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of another man in south Dublin on St. Stephen’s Day 2013.

A man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of another man in south Dublin on St. Stephen’s Day 2013.

Wayne Kennedy of Rathsallagh Park, Shankill, Dublin 18 is also accused of attacking his alleged victim’s friend on the same night.

David Spain had returned from Australia to spend Christmas 2013 with his family.

At around 5.30am on St. Stephen’s Day, the 26-year-old was found on a road at Rathsallagh Park.

He appeared to have been stabbed and was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

His friend Sean Turner was also rushed to hospital with stab wounds.

Wayne Kennedy is accused of murdering David Spain and assault causing harm to Mr Turner.

The 34-year-old pleaded not guilty to both charges this morning and a jury of 10 men and two women were sworn in to hear his trial.

The court heard a number of Gardaí and witnesses from the Shankill area will be called to give evidence in a trial that is due to get underway on Thursday and will take up to five days.
