Investigation launched after Cork swimming pool accident leaves boy in critical condition
Gardaí in Youghal have launched an investigation into a swimming incident in Cork has left a young boy in critical condition.
The four-year-old is receiving treatment at Temple Street Children's Hospital Dublin.
He had been in the pool at Quality Hotel in Redbarn with his family when he is understood to have gotten into difficulty.
The boy was rescued from the water by lifeguards and rushed to University College Hospital Cork - and then to Dublin.
The boy - who has been named locally as Ronan Kennedy from Templederry in Co Tipperary - was holidaying with his parents, John and Bridget, and his two brothers when the incident happened.

Independent Councillor for Templemore-Thurles, Willie Kennedy, said that locals in Borrisoleigh were celebrating Tipperary's win in the Munster Hurling Final when the devastating news began to trickle in.
"It puts things into perspective - those people forgot about the Munster final very fast," he said.
"Both families would be very involved in the GAA."
