A Dublin man convicted of the armed robbery of a Galway jewellers is appealing his sentence of ten years imprisonment at the Courts of Criminal Appeal.

A Dublin man convicted of the armed robbery of a Galway jewellers is appealing his sentence of ten years imprisonment at the Courts of Criminal Appeal.

Gavin Carabini, of Our Lady’s Road, Maryland in Dublin stole 40 Rolex and Cartier watches worth more than a €100,000 from Hartmann Jewellers on November 28, 2008.

One of three masked men who held up female staff and a customer, he was armed with iron bars and one of the other raiders had a pistol.

The heist prompted a high speed Garda chase and a major manhunt in the Athenry area.

Carabini's legal team have argued that the sentence was at the higher end of the scale and that there were mitigating circumstances, including his background and the fact he wasn't carrying a gun.
