14% having sex three or more times a week - survey

A new survey suggests 14% of people in Ireland are having sex three or more times a week.

The study from the Irish Times also shows 44% of participants are having sex at least once a week (including the 14% above), while people aged between 25 and 34 are the most sexually active in the country.

22% of respondents said they were having sex less than once a month, and 27% less than once a week.

The responses of more than 12,000 participants were included in the analysis for the online study.

Clinical sexologist Emily Powers said people should not worry too much about how they measure up to others.

"It's really important people don't begin to feel bad or inadequate that they're not matching these statistics," she said.

"It really comes down to whether you're happy - are you having the kind and amount of sex that you want to have each week or each year? If you are - that's your answer."
