Two men are in custody after an attempted armed robbery at a post office in Dublin today.

At about 10.55am the men, one armed with a hammer, entered the post office at Kilnamanagh, Dublin 24 and demanded cash.

No money was handed over and the men fled the scene in the red Toyota Corolla that they had arrived in. The car was later burned out at Treepark Road.

The two men, one his 30s and the other in his 40s went on foot towards Tymon North. GardaĂ­ then intercepted their escape, and arrested the men.

Both are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Tallaght Garda Station.
