Liquidator will meet Clerys workers, Minister says

The Jobs Minister says liquidators at Clerys have agreed to meet unions and laid-off workers.

The Dublin department store closed on Friday, with 130 staff made redundant and over 300 concession holders left facing uncertain futures.

Clerys was sold to property developers Natrium, with KPMG appointed by the High Court as liquidators.

The workers say they will picket the store this week and say they are owed back pay and redundancy packages.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton says Clerys liquidators will meet the workers, who, he said, have been treated poorly.

"It's terrible to lose your job - and it's particularly appalling to lose your job in the circumstances that they've experienced, [with] very poor communication," he said.

"The Department of Social Protection will be providing a briefing for workers [and] I understand that the liquidator has now agreed to meet the unions.

"Hopefully that will give people greater certainty in this very difficult time."
