Gardaí are investigating after a man escaped from custody through a bathroom window at Newcastle West District Court on Tuesday.

Sources told the Irish Examiner the man fled through a window in a courthouse bathroom.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed an investigation was under way following the escape from custody in Newcastle West, Co Limerick, on Tuesday.

Garda inquiries are ongoing and a helicopter was deployed as part of the search operation.
