Limerick city of culture events made €44m for local economy

Limerick's economy benefited from the "National City of Culture" title to the tune of almost €44 million.
The figure has emerged in an economic impact assessment published today by Grant Thornton today.
Over 3,000 events took place in Limerick in 2014 during the year long programme, aimed at showcasing Limerick as a vibrant city with a rich cultural community.
The programme cost €12 million, with additional government investment of €4.5 million. It's estimated the 156 projects had an audience of 1.8 million people.

In a separate study, it was estimated that over 2,500 artists were employed to some extent over the course of the year.
The city is now bidding to become the European Capital of Culture in 2020.
