Olympic Boxer Nevin charged with public order offences in court

Irish Olympic Boxer John Joe Nevin has appeared in court on public order charges.

The 2012 silver medallist is one of five Mullingar men who were charged arising from an incident on Dominick Street in Mullingar on April 6, last.

Mullingar District court heard that 25-year-old John Joe Nevin - along with 21-year-old Paddy Nevin both of 7 St. Anthony's Cottages - 20-year-old Joseph Nevin of 7 Grange Park Meadows, 25-year-old David Nevin of 4 The Moorings, Ballymahon road and 23-year-old Christopher Nevin of 12 Grange Park, were all in breach of the Public Order Act.

The five Mullingar men are alleged to have been intoxicated in a public place and using threatening or abusive behaviour.

Judge Seamus Hughes remanded the five men on bail to appear before him on May 21, ordered them not to enter any licensed premises or consume intoxicating substances and placed them under a curfew.

John Joe Nevin is allowed to break his curfew if outside the jurisdiction training or if he gets permission from the prosecuting Garda.

Following a request by inspector Jarlath Folan the Distillery pub on Dominick street in Mullingar will be closed from 6pm tonight until 6pm on Wednesday next week.
