Supreme Court to rule on school's admission policy after traveller's mother takes case

A Supreme Court ruling is expected this morning on whether a teenage traveller was indirectly discriminated against by a school's admission policy.

Mary Stokes, the mother of John Stokes, is challenging the policy of the Christian Brothers High School in Clonmel, which prioritises the sons of past pupils.

She brought a case to the Equality Tribunal which found John had been discriminated against, but appeals to the Circuit Court and High Court went in favour of the school.

The case is to be decided today by the Supreme Court.
