Bose workers' union seek meeting with new Monaghan employer

SIPTU says a jobs announcement in Co. Monaghan yesterday could be positive news for workers affected by the closure of the Bose plant in Carrickmacross.

The trade union says it plans to invite managers from Combilift - a Monaghan based forklift company who announced 200 new positions - to the Bose facility to meet with affected workers.

It was announced last month that production at the Carrickmacross factory would be shut down with the loss of around 140 jobs.

Industrial Organiser with SIPTU James McVeigh, says the new jobs announced at Combilift, is great news for the Monaghan region.

"We were delighted to hear about the Combilift jobs … what we have suggested is whether it would be possible for Combilift to come visit the factory, [and] whether it would be possible … to take the skills that people have within Bose."

The closure is part of a world-wide cost-cutting programme in Bose, which will see production transferred to Malaysia and Mexico.

SIPTU representatives have also met with the Minister for Jobs and Enterprise Richard Bruton, to discuss ways to create employment opportunities for workers affected by job losses at Bose.
