Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said today that the peace process would not have happened if letters had not been sent to on-the-run IRA members assuring them they were not being pursued by UK authorities.

He has been giving evidence before a House of Commons inquiry in London about the issuing of the so-called "letters of comfort".
