White Christmas unlikely this year, says Met Éireann
We're probably not going to see a White Christmas this year, according to Met Éireann.
According to Met Éireann, Ireland is more likely to have mild weather than snowy scenes next week.
There have also been reports in recent days that we are in for a cold snap after Christmas, with one report predicting Ireland will be shivering in temperatures as low as -10C.
However, meteorologist Evelyn Cusack says we just cannot know for sure what's in store for the new year.
"There are no, if you like, scientific forecasts that far ahead," she said.
"In fact, our limit, and the limit anywhere in the world, is just exactly 10 days, which brings us to Christmas Eve.
"I'm looking at it now, and the maximum temperatures are Dublin 12C, Cork 13C, Shannon or Limerick 12C, Galway 12C.
"Today we’re in the cooler air – it’s a nice, bright day, temperatures 5-8C,
"A warm front is going to go through on Tuesday, bringing us into very mild air, so that’ll bring temperatures up to 12C, 13C later Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
"Then it will be back into the cooler air for Friday and Saturday, and then a good possibility of [going] back into the milder air then from next week."
