A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in jail after being found guilty of all firearms and burglary charges relating to an attempted break in at the home of a Cork businessman over a year ago.

A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to 14 years in jail after being found guilty of all firearms and burglary charges relating to an attempted break in at the home of a Cork businessman over a year ago.

Niall Fitzpatrick with an address at Corrin Close, The Glen, Cork,had denied a total of four charges arising from an incident at the home of Patrick Glavin at Rougrane in Glanmire in August 2013.

Fitzpatrick was found guilty by a jury at Cork Circuit Criminal Court,after deliberating for over four hours, following a 20-day trial.

The jail term was backdated to when the defendant was first taken into custody in connection with the offences.
