29,000 cigarettes seized in Dublin operation
Some 29,000 cigarettes and 5kgs of tobacco have been seized in Dublin.
In an intelligence-led operation last night, gardaí and staff from Revenue Customs service recovered 10,000 cigarettes in a Northern Irish-registered van.
In a follow-up operation today, a further 19,000 cigarettes and 5kgs of tobacco were seized from a premises.
The value of the entire consignment is in the region of €15,000, with a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €12,000.
No one has been arrested. The seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes in the shadow economy.
