Irish Water 'will not be selling customer data'

Irish Water is looking to reassure people over their use of customers' personal information.

The company is reacting to weekend newspaper reports focusing on the "small print" on their website in relation to the use and storage of data.

It is in the process of sending out application packs to households around the country, with the first bills expected to arrive in January.

Spokesperson Elizabeth Arnett is adamant they will only use information in specific ways.

She said: "We will not be selling that data. We are an arm of the State gathering data for very particular reasons in order to ensure our customers get an accurate bill from us.

"There is no case, or question, in relation to PPS numbers or any customer data being sold on in the way that it was described in the Sunday papers."
