Sinn Féin set to add three seats in Limerick
A Limerick tally at 1pm has predicted that Sinn Féin will return four to the new 40-member Limerick City and County Council.
Sinn Féin had only one councillor in Limerick in the outoing councils, Maurice Quinlivan in Limerick City.
Mr Quinlivan has put in a huge performance in the six-seat constituency of Limerick City North, taking a massive 25.1% of the vote.
The Anti Austerity candidate in Limerick City North, Cian Prendiville, has polled strongly on 9%.
Party strategists say they could have taken a second seat in this Metropolitan district had they put up a running mate with Mr Quinlivan.
Fine Gael's former Mayor of Limerick, Diarmuid Scully looks in danger of losing his seat in Limeick City East, where Sinn Féin will take a seat.
In the Cappamore-Kilmallock seven-seat district, Fine Gael look like losing a seat to Sinn Féin.
In Limerick City West, Labour's strongest Limerick City candidate, Joe Leddin, is facing a battle to hold on to his seat.
He was on 15% with 22 of the 34 boxes opened.
However, at that point, the boxes in his main areas of support had been opened.
Mr Leddin, a former Mayor of Limerick, is a full-time parliamentary assistant to Housing Minister Jan O'Sullivan.
Labour supporters are hoping he may have done enough in his own back yard to hold on.
