Green Party election candidate subjected to racist attack
A local election candidate in Monaghan town has been the victim of a racist attack.
Green party candidate Grazvydas 'Grady' Vaitekunas said he was verbally abused by a member of the public last week who threatened to remove his posters as he "didn't want foreigners in the country".
The Lithuanian national was erecting posters when the incident happened last week. Several of his posters also had paint thrown on them.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Monaghan businessman said he would not be taking down the damaged posters, preferring to leave them up to highlight the problems of racism in society.
