An Army bomb disposal unit was called out to examine a suspicious package near the home of the Justice Minister in south Dublin this morning, which was subsequently declared a hoax.

An Army bomb disposal unit was called out to examine a suspicious package near the home of the Justice Minister in south Dublin this morning, which was subsequently declared a hoax.

Gardaí requested the services of the Defence Forces this morning after they became aware of the package.

It is understood the incident happened in the south Dublin estate where the Justice Minister lives.

A spokesperson for the Defence Forces confirmed that the incident was a hoax.

"The army bomb disposal unit was deployed to the scene at 9.55am and the scene was declared safe at 10.45am," the spokesperson said.

"We can confirm that it was a hoax."
