Wholesale energy prices fall due to mild winter

The stormy winter helped to lower energy prices for electricity suppliers, but consumers won't see the benefit just yet.

Wholesale prices fell by 13% last month, with wind turbines generating 23% of Ireland's energy requirement.

Overall, the Bord Gáis energy index for February fell by 5% with the mild winter also having an impact.

Bord Gáis Energy power trader John Heffernan says that means wholesale prices may fall when it comes to next winter.
