CAB may claim €1.25m dug up in field in Limerick

The Criminal Assets Bureau could make a claim on €1.25m found in Limerick at the weekend.

A 53-year-old man is still being questioned by Limerick gardaí, after a man was found digging up cash in a field in Portcrusha in Castleconnell on Saturday, as part of an investigation into organised crime.

A second man was also arrested, but he has been released without charge.

Wads of notes were found in a hut in a field in Portcrusha, Castleconnell, Co Limerick.

Gardaí arrested the men after attempts were made to retrieve the hidden cash worth up to €1.25m that had been buried more than 6ft (1.8m) underground.

The arrested man remains in custody at Henry Street Garda Station and is being questioned under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act.

It is understood the arrests follow a surveillance operation and the money is believed to be profits from the drug trade.
