Revenue warns of text-message scam

The Revenue Commissioners office has warned taxpayers about a new text-message scam.

The tax authority says it is aware of fraudulent phone messages which contain a link to a website which seeks personal information.

A statement from Revenue says it never sends unsolicited text messages.

"Anyone who receives an unsolicited text message purporting to be from Revenue and suspects it to be fraudulent or a scam should simply delete it," the statement reads.

"Anyone who is actually awaiting a tax refund should contact their local Revenue Office to check its status.

"Anyone who provided credit/debit card information in response to these text messages should contact their bank or credit card company immediately."
