More Irish arrests possible in child porn crackdown

There could be more Irish arrests on the way as part of a global crack-down on child porn.

Two men were questioned earlier this year after a Canadian led investigation supplied a list of 80 names to gardaí here as part of an investigation named Project Spade.

They say adults, including some parents, were paying for videos and images of naked children from Eastern Europe, in particular Ukraine and Romania.

Two men arrested here in Ireland were questioned then released without charge, with a file on the way to the DPP.

Mike Berry is a Clinical Forensic Psychologist working with the Irish authorities. He says it's very difficult to get evidence against the ring leaders.

"The very top-end will have computer experts who are protecting material," he said.

"If, by some chance the authorities do get to the top and do the 5am morning visit, they can literally press just one button and wipe out millions of images," he claimed.
