Taoiseach condemns recent sexism controversies in Dáil and Seanad

The Taoiseach spoke today for the first time about recent sexism incidents in the Dáil and Seanad, saying they were "completely unacceptable".

It follows an incident during an early morning vote when Fine Gael TD Tom Barry pulled fellow Deputy Aine Collins onto his lap.

And in the Seanad, Senator David Norris referred to "The Regina Monologues" over Regina Doherty's appointment to deputy campaign director for Fine Gael for the abolition of the Seanad, adding she was "talking through her fanny".

"I find them completely unacceptable," Kenny said.

"Deputy Tom Barry apologised at the parliamentary party of Fine Gael, to all his colleagues, to Deputy Collins.

"[He] said this would never happen again, was truly apologetic to all his party colleagues."

"I found the remarks of Senator Norris disgraceful, in the Seanad - absolutely disgraceful," he added.
