Amnesty joins Dublin Pride parade to highlight homophobia in Africa

Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets of Dublin this afternoon to mark Dublin's 30th annual Gay Pride Parade.

The theme of this year's parade is 'Live, Love and Be Proud' and will make its way from the Garden of Rememberance to Merrion Square.

Amnesty International has joined today's parade to highlight homophobia in Africa.

They have said that homosexuality is still illegal in 38 African states with the death penalty used as punishment in some countries there.

Colm O'Gorman of Amnesty International Ireland says gay rights activism has a strong history in Ireland.
