A 26-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged last night with the double killing of a Lithuanian woman and her daughter in Co Kerry.

Jolanta Lubiene, 27, and her eight-year-old daughter Enrika were found dead at their home in Langford Downs in Killorglin almost two weeks ago.

Aurimas Andruska, of Ardmoniel Heights, Killorglin, appeared before Killarney District Court shortly after 8pm last night and was charged with the murder of Ms Lubiene and the unlawful killing of her daughter.

Detective Sergeant John Kelly told the court that at 6.30pm yesterday evening, the accused was arrested at School Road, Sunhill, Killorglin and brought to Killarney garda station.

When he was charged with the murder of Jolanta Lubiene at 7.45pm, he replied: “I didn’t kill, I can only tell”.

He was also charged with the unlawful killing of Enrika Lubyte to which he replied “I will tell you exactly the same”.

Legal aid was granted to solicitor Peter Malone.

Jolanta’s husband, Marius, sister, Kristina and brother-in-law Viadas were in court.

Mr Andruska was remanded in custody to Cork Prison by Judge James O’Connor who ordered him to appear before Killarney District Court next Tuesday.
