Dublin fire under control; nearby sewage plant evacuated
An investigation is due to get underway after a fire at an ESB sub-station in Ringsend broke out in the early hours of this morning.
It took eight units from the Dublin Fire Brigade to bring the blaze under control.
The alarm was raised after the building on Pigeon House Road caught fire just before 3am.
Eight units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were dispatched to the scene and several are still here putting out the final embers.
A spokesperson for the ESB has confirmed to 98FM News that the building was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
They also said that there was little disruption to customers as electricity would have been supplied from another source as soon as the power was cut.
Gardaí say a nearby sewage plant had to be evacuated because of smoke billowing towards the building.
But nobody was affected by the smoke and the evacuation was purely a precautionary measure.
Gardaí, city council officials and ESB crews remain at the scene this morning and a full investigation will be underway as soon as possible.
