Immigrant Council welcomes LRC jury duty proposal
The Immigrant Council of Ireland is welcoming proposals from the Law Reform Commission to allow migrants to carry out jury duty.
The commission is recommending that foreign nationals, who have lived here for more than five years, should qualify for service.
The proposal is part of a plan to widen the pool from which potential jury members can be called.
The Immigrant Council of Ireland believes that allowing migrants to sit on juries would mean panels that are more reflective of modern Ireland.
