The body of mountaineer Ian McKeever, who died after he was struck by lightning as he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last week, is to be returned to Ireland on Friday.

The body of mountaineer Ian McKeever, who died after he was struck by lightning as he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro last week, is to be returned to Ireland on Friday.

The 42-year-old Wicklow man was leading a group on an expedition which was raising money for charity.

His removal will take place at 7pm in Roundwood, Co Wicklow on Friday evening, followed by funeral Mass on Saturday morning.

The McKeever family said they would like to express their sincere gratitude for all the kindness and magnitude of coverage regarding Ian's untimely death.

They said the coverage will ensure his eternal memory will remain in the hearts of those whom he touched.
