Health providers expecting accident-prone influx tomorrow

Health providers are expecting one of the busiest days of the year tomorrow, as Christmas mishaps take their toll.

Bumps, bruises, burns, colds and flus are just some of the ailments expected to take up the time of doctors across the country.

Statistics show that December 27 is typically the busiest day of the year for accident clinics, with cases jumping by 40%.

Dr Brian Gaffney of the VHI Swiftcare programme said people were particularly prone to accidents at this time of the year.

People out and about involved in sporting activities or in bad weather "are more inclined to be involved in slips and injuries", he said.
