Gardaí have officially launched a murder investigation after a 65-year-old man was shot dead in Dublin.

Convicted criminal Eamon Kelly was killed yards from his home on Furry Park Road in Killester shortly after 4pm today.

The scene of the gangland style shooting remains sealed off tonight - while forensic examinations are carried out.

A black Lexus car used during the gun attack was later found partially burnt out on Stiles Court in Clontarf.

Superintendent Dave Taylor - from the Garda Press Office - said that a man aged in his 30s was arrested nearby the car:
