Army disposes of pipe bomb in Larne

A pipe bomb has been discovered close to a police station in the North.

The explosive was found in Hope Street, Larne, Co Antrim, the Police Service of Northern Ireland said.

A spokesman added: “Army technical officers have examined a suspicious object discovered in the area and have declared it to be a viable pipe bomb-type device, which has been taken away for further examination.”

The security alert in the Hope Street area of Larne is now over.
