Gardaí investigating the murder of a woman in Dublin last night are appealing to the driver of a white car to contact them.

The 26-year old victim was stabbed to death just before 9pm at a house in Allendale Glen, in Ongar, in the North West of the city.

The mother-of-two was driven to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown, where she was later pronounced dead.

"At 8.53pm on September 21, 2012, gardaí received a 999 call that an assault had occurred at a house at Allendale Glen, Clonsilla," a Garda staement reads.

"On arrival at scene, gardaí discovered a male (early 30s) with stab wounds and he was removed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

"At 9.01pm a female was left at the entrance to the Accident and Emergency Department of James Connolly Memorial Hospital.

"The vehicle involved was a white Ford Focus hatchback bearing the partial registration number of 08 D 22. A distinctive feature of this car is that the rear drivers' hub-cap is missing.

"The female was pronounced dead at 10.30pm."

Gardaí are appealing for any people who were in the area of Allendale Glen from 8-9pm to urgently contact Gardaí in the incident room in Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 6667032, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.

They are also appealing to witnesses who may have seen the white Ford Focus at the entrance to the A&E Department where the woman was dropped off.

Two technical examinations are ongoing one at the house where the incident occurred, and a separate investiagtion at at Connolly Hospital.

A postmortem on the woman's body is due to be carried out today.
