Minute's silence for late journalist at Croke Park

The late sports writer Con Houlihan, who died yesterday aged 86, will be remembered with a minute's silence before today's All-Ireland quarter final at Croke Park.

President Michael D Higgins has led tributes to the Kerryman, praising him as "a most original writer, with a unique style based on his extensive knowledge of literature, politics, life and sport".

A Greek and Latin scholar, Houlihan spent much of his working life as a journalist with the Irish Press Group, and then with the Irish Independent from 1995 until his death.

Sports Editor with the Sunday World Eamon Gibson says the paper is proud to today publish Con's final article, submitted just last week.
